As part of the Homework Challenges in Year 7 and 8 Brad decided to raise money for the Haemophilia Foundation.  He organised haemophilia wrist bands and distributed them to each class.  For a gold coin donation students could get a red wristband to wear.  Watch this video to hear what what he did.

NZ Poverty

While the year 8's were in Wellington, the year 7's (And some of the year 8's who didn't go) researched on Poverty in New Zealand. We learnt about houses that were unstable and unfit to live in. We also learnt about different ways to keep our houses warm. We learnt about different ways houses can be heated effectively and keep our houses warm with minimum cost. So we made small houses and we also had to write down some blueprints and how our cardboard houses were going to be heated.

Athletics Sport Update - Sprints

On Friday the 26th October, the Oaklands Athletic Sprints took place on the field after lunch. Year 4 - 8 students took part in the sprinting. The sprints were 50m to 100m in length, depending on the age of the student. The Athletics took place on Tuesday the 23rd October and it was really fun but because of bad
weather after lunchtime, the sprints were postponed until Friday.

Bailey, Thornton, Michaela, Callum, William, Rachel and Matthew all did really well in the sprints.
50 of our students are going to the South West Zone Sports on the 6th November.

Look out for news about that.

Athletics at Oaklands School

In recent weeks we have been practising for our School Athletics which will be held on Tuesday 23 October. (PP date Friday 26 October) We have practised high jump, sprints, discus, shot put and long jump. It is really great to have a new high jump mat which means we can easily run two high jumps at once. We have been learning how to do the scissor jump correctly. You have to jump with one leg before the other, make sure your legs go over the bar before your shoulder and that your run up has good speed. We hope the weather will be kind to us. Jump Rope for Heart.

This is Jump Rope for Heart. We raised about $400 and all the classes took part. We had a time skip event, which is who can skip for the longest. We also had class skip, which all of our class had to skip on the big ropes, or two people on the smaller ropes. In the Super Nova's, room 3 won the class skip. We all dressed up in our house colors. This was on the courts all throughout the day. Each team had their own session. We did Jump Rope for Heart for the Heart Foundation and for our own fitness. It was really fun and I think most of us enjoyed it.
